Madison Ave Smiles Dental

Of the infinite bounties of nature, life is the most precious one. We all study nature and life through our vocations. Dentistry is one of the most vital services mankind utilizes and for good reason. The development of the vertebral column and a mouth which opens and closes were the two main developmental features of life as it started inhabiting land from sea. Hence the mouth became an organ of sustenance – life without adequate attention to any of its vital aspects inevitably flounders.

Our mouths are our gateways to health. Yet it is a mystery why the public has been not as well informed as it should be. In modern society, appearance is as important as it has been from time immemorial. While our standards have steadily been on the rise and what is pleasing to the eye now has evolved over eons. People are perceived by others on many levels. The appearance of health and wellbeing is attractive to the entire human race.

Our teeth reflect a lot of standards which modern society exacts from its members. It is worthwhile to note that dental health and appearance are more cherished by advanced cultures. The Americas have somehow been the stalwarts of dental standards. USA and Canada are still leaders in the consumption of dental services. Why is it so? Could it be that teeth come to be important as our needs are met on more basic levels? Why are Americans the most cognizant and conscious of their teeth?
That being said, our next question is, why is a dental visit so dreaded across the board? Why would it not be? Well, let us see if you had some disposable income, what would your choices be? Would you pay off some debt? Would you invent it? Or would you take a vacation? Against all odds you decided, “hey, let me go to Dr. Malik and get my teeth drilled!” Such apprehension and hesitation towards a dental visit is universal. I sometimes marvel, how does our appointment book get filled?

The point I am trying to make is that our profession deserves some criticism. We have not been progressive enough. In this practice we strive to break that mold by out-of-the-box thinking. My dissatisfaction with the procedures in vogue is the prolonged use of the drill and the suction tubes. Both of these are taxing noises for anyone. Yet as dentists we hypnotize ourselves with the drill. In our practice we employ ways to deliver comfortable injections, minimal removal of tooth structure, and restorations which mimic nature. Our emphasis is to bring procedures from maximally to minimally invasive.
This is all owing to my teachers who are the thought leaders in our noble profession. I have had the good fortune to have had a bicoastal educational exposure. Their areas of excellence are shared equally but in different spheres by the East and West Coast dental institutions.

It must be noted that as we travel west, innovations become more and more apparent. It has been that way for a great part of our history. Blue jeans, Boeing, Silicon Valley, emission standards are a few of western US gifts we all enjoy. Similarly Hollywood has had a huge impact on our dental awareness. My training at NYU gave me a very solid grounding in traditional dentistry, while UCLA changed the way I think. Remember, the eyes do not see what the brain does not know. Out west, the evolution of minimally invasive and responsible cosmetic dentistry is way ahead.

Hence we pride ourselves in doing things differently. Our mission statement is to deliver high quality cosmetic, implant and general dentistry that enhance our patients’ lives through enhanced health, aesthetics, and pain-free living.
